Shot a bit of road racing over the weekend...on 35mm film

Drove out to High Plains Raceway, about an hour east of Denver last weekend to catch a bit of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! taking place there. Despite owning DSLRs for the past six years, the longest lens I own is a 70-210mm telephoto known as “the beercan”. It belongs to the Minolta Maxxum 7000 my grandfather bought in the 80s, which was the first camera ever to feature autofocus and motorized film advance. Perfect for shooting racecars!

Apparently I cleared everything off this table except for my 15th anniversary The Fast and the Furious ticket!

This lovely 911 was parked right next to the grid staging area.

Lots of Mazdas on the track! A wholly unexpected amount of ROTARYYYYYYY (Also I didn’t notice that Mazda flag waving in the corner until JUST NOW. Otherwise I would have composed this awful shot much better)

These Formula Mazdas were up next!

Remember the abundance of Mazdas and rotaries that I mentioned earlier? These Formula Mazda cars were part of that. 180 horsepower out of a 13B rotary engine pushing around a car weighing 1350 pounds with driver . They sounded fantastic on track and I want one so badly.

Workers kick ass, indeed.

I loved the look of this #11 car.

FB RX-7 with a great livery

The pluckiest little GTI racecar there ever was.

The first actual race just after its rolling start braking deep into turn 1. Yes, that is a Corolla racecar there in the back. It was slow and loud, but it raced!

FC RX-7 battling it out down the pit straight with a very quick Honda CRX. IIRC the CRX made the pass and put distance down.

SO MUCH ROTARY!! RX-8 making the pass on the FC RX-7. Gotta love some hot Mazda-on-Mazda action.

I quite like the front fenders on this Lotus Seven.

I finished off my 24-frame roll of film pretty quickly and stupid me forgot to pick up spares ahead of time. But I had a great time out at High Plains Raceway, the track was awesome. I’ll definitely be back!
